Atomic Crimson Ti Skis 2012 Skis Review

Atomic Crimson Ti Skis on the Slopes

If you're in need of an all-mountain ski that actually works in all conditions then your search is over. I cannot say enough good things about the 2012 Atomic Crimson Ti Titanium Skis since my discovery of them this season.

The new movement in skis is towards what's called the 'One Ski Quiver' and it'll be interesting to see what's available for the 2013 season. One Ski Quiver is the new term given to a few skis now on the market that a handful of brands are releasing, claiming to be truly capable of containing a multiple set of characteristics from a variety of skis built for different skiing conditions. Pah! you cry....and so did we when we heard about this new type of ski. Surely it's not possible?! Many all-mountain skis have, for years, attempted to give us a ski that can hold itself in any condition on any terrain, and some have come quite close - but it's always come with compromises. The Rossignol Backcountry S (my ski of choice for a long while) was, in my opinion, the closest. But they are still crap on ice and short turns require a lot more push in the legs to get into a rhythm on the piste and there's just always a bit of bite missing.

All these commonly known compromises with the top all-mountain skis now seems to be a thing of the past - and oh how thrilled we are. The Atomic Crimson have the usual all-mountain wider ski shape ( Tip/Waist/Tail Widths: 130.5/88/116mm (@ 171cm) ) and adaptive rocker technology, meaning they're great for backcountry and off piste. However, in addition, they're also re-enforced with titanium inserts (hence the Ti in the name), which gives them torsional rigidity and therefore stability like you wouldn't believe. Combine this with the Step Down sidewall, which helps transfer all power directly to the slope, and you have yourself a carving, cruising piste machine. They turn like short carver skis and on longer, wider, sweeping turns they dig into the piste with an outstanding strength, enabling you to glide over ice and unpredictable terrain with confidence that your skis will hold. You'll be skimming your hand across the snow at the core of each turn you'll be carving so hard.

If you're an advanced, agressive and powerful skier then buy these skis! You won't regret it.

Nite International Watches - Time for Serious Outdoor Sports Style

Nite International are a small British company with big ambitions. They design, manufacture and distribute their own unique make of watches. And from what we can see, this home-grown approach makes their watches some of the best available for the outdoor sports audience on the market today and worthy of comparison with some of the World's top watch brands.

They take pride in using the best materials and components and have some nifty features that will get the gadget geeks excited, such as the Swiss self-powered GTLS illumination, Swiss made movements and (coolest of all), Nite watches are recognised military quality products and some benefit from having an official NATO stock number. I know, we squealed a little with excitement when we read this too. All their watches are made with an ultra thick sapphire crystal, triple anti-reflective coating, making these time-pieces super strong for the outdoors types.

Each watch in their collection comes with specific features and unique styles. Here are three of our favourites...

Nite International MX10 212 Watch Review   £199.95

MX10 212 Day White Nite Watch

The MX10-212 and its white polymer strap and dial will appeal to those looking for an all purpose style watch that can be worn with all colours. We think it has the sort of look comfortable in the sand or in the snow. We can picture style conscious surfer dudes or freestyle boarders and skiers donning this watch riding or posing around resort. This watch doesn't just look pretty, it's also packed with a high standard specification and the usual build quality of Nite watches, making this watch a very special bit of kit.  Nite say they expect the typical owner to be less demanding of performance, however, the 212 is also worn by world class free runners, skiers and surfers. At £199.99 it's not a bad price either. We love it.

Nite International AQUA AQ2-G Watch Review   £329.95

Aqua AQ2G Day Black Nite Watches

We did a competition late 2012 where readers of Chasingair.com could win the AQUA AQ4-B sister watch of the AQUA AQ2-G, and our readers went mad for it. Well this version is just as desirable. With a dark polymer strap, classic white dial, orange minute hand, with blue GTLS illumination and stylish gun metal PVD case, we envisage this watch appealing to the more extreme sports types and water sports enthusiasts.  This watch is serious bit of kit with extra thick screw in case back, Nite's standard sapphire crystal coating and a water depth range of 300m (hence the AQUA part in the name).  The crown and bezel are well protected but chunky so it's easy to turn if you're in a blizzard and don't particularly fancy taking your gloves off.  The Aqua should be a serious consideration for all water sports or as a seriously eye catching fashion statement.

Nite International CHRONO CR8 GT  Watch Review £429.95

Chrono CR8 GT 300T Day BlaCK Nite watch

The CHRONO CR8 GT is possibly the coolest looking watch in the Nite collection. If you're a mountain scrambler and all round bad-ass similar to the likes of Bear Grylls and want something that looks equally as bad-ass with all the reliability and gadgets you need for your crazy adventures in the elements, then you needn't look any further my friend. This watch is stealth-like in design with graphite dial and bezel numerals, a red second hand and blue and orange GTLS illumination.  It has a stunning black PVD case and an ultra tough polymer strap. This watch literally screams ‘Black Ops, Call of Duty’ – modern, fit for purpose and ready for action.

NEED TO ADD COMPETITION DETAILS We are currently finalising our second competition that is due to launch this Thursday, there are over £4500 of prizes including two holidays, a specialized bike, an Olympus camera, Nite watches, Dare2B jackets....once the artwork is complete and we are ready to go I will send across full details.

Easter BMX Treats - Bank Holiday Four Videos Friday Special

Because of some technical issues last Friday I didn't manage to get my FVF posted up in time so i'm changing the name to something not half as snazzy but basically serves the same purpose. I hope you've had a good Easter holiday, it's been a good couple of days to relax, eat chocolate, catch up with the family and slowly come to the realisation that it's all back to normal tomorrow... However before we have to get back to the daily grind here are some videos from the past week that have caught my eye:

If you're into your BMX you would have no doubt heard about the Simple Sessions in Estonia. They've happened every year for the past few years and each time they keep getting bigger and better and the riders from all over the world keep dropping bigger and bigger hammers. Check out these prime cuts over the next 45 seconds, madness >

I always like the quality that Vans like to keep to when they put out edits, just this week I was watching a video and I can't remember for the life of me what big company was behind it but the production was terrible. Anyway Kevin Kalkoff has been putting in some overtime getting this video finished, travelling around France and Spain to hit up only the best spots, the quality of riding and production really shows in this edit.

Another amazing edit straight out of Spain, this time in Barcelona with Mathieu Peladan for BMX Avenue. All this talk of BCN makes me want to go back, I was there just a couple of months ago enjoying the 16 degree heat, you may think that's not very warm but considering when I left Newcastle Airport it was 2 degrees it seemed like a furness in comparison.

We end on a short and sweet edit of Federal Bikes rider Dan Lacey who won best trick at the Seventies "Our House" jam. He's a beast of a rider when it comes to park or street, he doesn't do things by halves. Check out this re-cap of the best stuff he pulled from the Our House series, it's off the hook!

Red Bull Metro Pipe

The contest was the brainchild of Sergio Layos, who worked with Red Bull to turn this busy Metro station into a unique BMX contest which played host to 15,000 spectators over the weekend. Red Bull's newest rider, Kriss Kyle, also managed to clinch 3rd place with his partner Jason Phelan.

The station that is normally filled with screeching trains and scurrying commuters was filled with the more natural screeching of the enthusiastic crowd that cheered on the 10 participating pairs through an incredible show on the challenging BMX track. Spain's David ‘Naran’ Peñafiel and Czech Michael Beran pulled off the victory with outstanding technique and style with Naran scoring with a Backflip Superman and Beran superbly nailing a Flair Tailwhip and Wallride Tailwhip. Coming second were Spain's Perico and Alistair Whitton of the United States while Brits Kris Kyle and Jason Phelan took third.

Red Bull Metro Pipe BMX

Be sure to check out this article by Albion contributor George Marshall who documented how difficult it was to get to this spot and how cool it is that Red Bull were able to secure such an awesome place for a contest.

Four Videos Friday - BMX and Skate Treats from Lakai, BSD & Greg Illingworth

Pure adrenaline with this weeks FVF, we have a right treat in for you but before you get all excited I'd like to show you a cool new commercial by Lakai Shoes. Lakai are a skate shoe brand who've been making sneaks for at least 10 years (that I know of) and I've had a couple of pairs myself - I'd totally recommend them. Check out their new commercial for the Brandon Biebel 3 shoe available now!

Now, adverts and trailers out the way it's time for the main events. As promised this week's round up is amazing, some of the best and most exciting riding I've seen in a while coming from some of my favorite companies and riders in BMX. First up is BSD Bikes' new trailer for their up and coming DVD "Any Which Way" which was premiered last night at the Simple Sessions in Estonia. Check out the trailer below and order your copy for FREE through any good BSD dealer.

Next up from the guys behind PubBMX, Jason Phelan has put together this web edit and all I can say is it's ridiculous. The riding is amazing, featuring Jason, Kris Kyle and friends. Unit23 is the best indoor park in the UK and the music makes me want to go out and get on my bike.. which I may just do but not after you watch the last video.

Eight months in the making and we are here. I heard about this video getting filmed a while back and I was excited for two very important reasons. First off a good friend Will Evans is behind the lens and you know when Will is in the driving seat the quality is going to be right up there, and secondly Greg Illingworth is the man in front of the lens!! Now if you haven't heard of Greg over the past year then you've possibly been living under a rock so get your fill now and then jump on your bike and enjoy the freaky weather we've been getting the past week

Four Videos Friday - Epic BMX Films for Your Viewing Pleasure

I know, I know, im hugely sorry. I've been as busy as a bee the past two weeks working my main jobs which is photography and camera assisting in the world of TV and Film. Next week I'm working on my first 3D shoot for Sky TV, tis going to be interesting and challenging, can't blooming wait! But enough about my reasons for being slack and on with this week's FVF:

Kicking it off this webisode is good friend Ben Basford who rides for Kink Bikes in the UK. Ben is s sick rider with amazing park and street skills an is always putting out good quality web edits. This edit however pushes the bar up another level, something I like to describe as "all killer, no filler". Ben and Archetype BMX have worked solid over the past four months getting the best clips for this edit, they've worked damn hard and it shows >

The next video is short but sweet. Coming in at just over a minute long and filmed in the classic, but not used that often, black and white setting on the camera. I really like the simplicity of this edit. Chilled music, great riding and well thought out angles for the filming. Sean Ricany doing it for Group Home Bikes >

In one of my previous blog posts, 'Four Videos Friday - Tea's on it's cold outside!' I'd reported about a feature Seventies Distribution had been working on. A web series called "Our House", now various riders from loads of different teams had come down and sessioned the private setup and put out edits. Recently the guys at Seventies teamed up with Monster Energy and Ride UK to put on a jam with some of the best riders from the UK. Here is my favorite video cause it's the "best trick" edit. Hammers getting dropped everywhere!

The final video is of the annual DUBBMX Jam from Rampworx Skatepark in Liverpool. The DUB series of jams have been a massive success and this year they have teamed up with Monster Energy (who seem to be getting behind BMX quite a bit at the moment) to put on the Street Series, this is probably going to be pretty epic and you should keep your eyes peeled on the DUBBMX site and Monster site for updates. In the mean time feast your eyes on the next six minutes of park shredding and have a great weekend >

Teva Unleashes Their New Mountain Bike Shoes - The Men's Pinner

Teva's New Range of Mountain Bike Shoes for Men - The Pinner

Teva have been hard at work developing products that enable and encourage your adventures, with the sole purpose (no pun intended) of protecting your feet from the elements in the process. This new release of bike shoes is no exception. In fact, some might say they're the sexiest products they've released to date.

The Pinner was recently featured in top bike magazine Bike Radar. They give the shoe a glowing 4.5 stars out of 5, and say “Teva’s Pinner is exceptionally comfortable and seriously sticky but it blends into civilian life without drawing attention.” The grip is due to Teva’s Spider365 rubber, developed specifically to stick like glue regardless of the terrain or weather.

And it's true, these trainers look cool and you can stick out as much or as little as you want. Try the Links style for a more colourful statement. The blue, yellow and light grey bestsellers were designed in collaboration with legendary mountain bike rider Jeff Lenowsky and look the nuts. For more of a toned down style, they’re also available in the classic turquoise and yellow Lunar Rock or in the new shade for spring, Ultra Violet. Check out the colour ranges below.

Compare and buy the Men's Pinner or check them out in action at the Winter Teva Mountain Games.

Dakine Team Heli Pro Ski Rucksack 20L Wolle Nyvelt 2012 Review

Dakine Team Heli Pro Ski Rucksack 20L Wolle Nyvelt

The Dakine Team Heli Pro 20L Wolle Nyvelt is a stunning Rucksack for any freeriding skier or snowboarder, especially if you're looking for something that straps either skis or a snowboard for some hardcore backcountry trekking. Skis can be strapped in diagonally and a snowboard vertically, using a harness system that is really easy to use and completely secure, giving the rucksack a really comfortable, non-obtrusive feel when it's on with extra gear pinned to it.

With 20L you've got plenty of room to stash all your extra layers, avalanche kit, snacks, wallet, music players, sunglasses and more. It's so roomy in fact, you could take a change of clothes for apres-ski or extra beer for everyone for a late afternoon hillside drink.

There's a great pouch in the main compartment able to carry a hydration system, which can be strapped in over the left shoulder,  or the pouch can be used for carrying up to 15" laptops (making this a great travel bag too) . The front compartment has multi-functional organiser pockets. There's even a fleece lined goggles compartment on top, which we found great for carrying spare Goggles for different light during the day.

We tested this bag for all its functions and found it to be light weight (only 2lbs - 9kg empty), comfortable, hard wearing and practical. It also looks the shit in situ, check out the pictures below.

Dakine Team Heli Pro Ski Rucksack 20L Wolle Nyvelt          Dakine Team Heli Pro Ski Rucksack 20L Wolle Nyvelt

You can carry almost anything weather it's strapped in or hidden inside. If anything at all, it could do with a few extra inner compartments for travel documents and a passport, but that's only if you're being really being picky!

The Heli Pro is available in other colours, but personally we love the Wolle Nyvelt the best.

Girl shredder? Wondering if you can wear this rucksack? Technically this is a guys pack, but if like me, you've been searching for a non-flowery or overly-girly rucksack by Dakine, but can't find any for women sizes, don't worry this will fit fine. You'll probably find it a little slack on the shoulders, but nothing that will make for an uncomfortable carriage. Enjoy!

Dalbello Krypton Kryzma I.D. Women's Ski Boot 2012 Review

Farewell to My Old Trusty Friends. Hello Krypton Kryzma's!

Dalbello Krypton Kryzma I.D. Women's Ski Boot 2012

After years of skiing with my trusty Salomon X Wave Sensifit Ski Boots (so old I can't even find a picture of them), I knew I needed to upgrade. Boot technology has moved on significantly in the last five years, but really, when it came down to it, I'd skied two winter seasons with these boots and countless holidays. And, like an old but trusted and loved horse, they were beginning to fail in their duties. I found a new friend in the Dalbello Krypton Kryzma I.D. Women's Ski Boots. Here's my story of the complete custom fitting I had and a review of their performance over eight days of skiing.

Buying 'Instruments of Torture' Is Never Fun

Buying ski boots is a pain in the arse and an expensive one at that. Get it wrong and you've probably just wasted a few hundred on a purchase you can't exchange. Everyone knows it, and I knew that this was the reason I'd been putting off exchanging my now comfy, but packed out and tired, X Waves for so long. But this year I bit the bullet. My boots were so finished I might as well have been wearing slippers.  So, I went on the hunt.

What Boot and From Where?

Now, Dalbello have been creating quite a storm with their boots of late. And as one friend put it to me 'all the ski instructors are wearing them'. Whilst that's not always the best measure of a good boot (after all, they probably look for comfort above performance for teaching beginners all day long) it's still a VERY good sign - a bit like Chinese people eating at a Chinese restaurant. You know it's going to be good! So with this knowledge I looked around a bit for Dalbello's and those competing, tried some boots on in my home town and made some comparable notes. By the way, the help you'll generally receive from boot fitters in the city will never be great. They cater for the boots that are most in demand - usually beginner to intermediate level, so the choice for expert skiers (if that's what you're after) will always be limited and so will the fitters' knowledge sadly. But it is a good way (on the hush) to try on some different boots before making any decisions and maybe finding a better price online or opting for a more professional fit in resort.

The Fitting

I opted for in resort. Mainly because I knew I had some very specific problems that needed some specific attention. After some consultation with my boot fitter, I bought the Dalbello Krypton Kryzma I.D. Women's Ski Boots without even trying them on. This made me sweat, I'll be honest. But I put my faith in my fitter who clearly knew his stuff. He was close to 100% sure these boots would suit my size, shape and skiing ability, so that was good enough for me.

I then spent the next hour being molded into my boots. The first step was to make my custom foot beds. This process was something I'd done before - simply stand on the machine and the beds are molded around the base of the foot. Next step was to have Dalbello's top-of-the-line, heat-moldable Krypton ID Women's Gold Thermo Custom-Fit liner made with high-density Ultralon molding foam (no less) molded to my entire lower leg. My fitter, firstly, spent several minutes applying foam pads to all the pressure points around my feet, ankles and shins to help mold the liners around my feet, but with extra room where I experience problems. I was seriously impressed by this point - I've never had a boot fitting like it. The next step was to put ski socks on over the foam pressure pads, slip into the heated liners, then step into my boots and let science take it's course. It took around ten minutes for the full molding of the liners to take. My fitter was excellent and if you're in the 3 Valees region of France I'd highly recommend paying them a visit in Val Thorens - Val Tho Sport

The Verdict

The first day they fit like a glove and there was no question my foot was firmly in place where it should be with little to no movement from the heel. The second day, I started having problems. They were hurting in the areas I'd previously had problems with and the heels had started to move a bit. I also had the common problem a lot of skiers have, that when I tightened them to solve the 'wellies' feeling, I lost all feeling in my feet. Hmmm expensive mistake I was beginning to think.

However, my fitter did tell me it would take at least three days for them to really settle, so I persisted. Low and behold each day that past, the boots felt better. If you do get these boots, I personally feel you need at least a week skiing with them. The last day of my eight days skiing was when the boots really felt their best. They were comfortable, I could tighten them and make minor adjustments with the adjustable twist buckles, my feet were really fastened in and the stability they gave me over my skis was something I'd never had before. No pressure points were hurting and the boots were really responsive, giving me a lot of extra control, stability and confidence in the hairy stuff off piste.

As a side not, if you have a wider foot (like me) these boots are fine - the liner features an expanded volume toe box and a roomy 98-mm foot width. Similarly if you're sporty and have muscular calves the custom liners are a bit higher than normal which means they don't dig into your muscle or nip, rather they sit above it. This also helps with shin bruising common amongst expert women skiers.

Dalbello Krypton Kryzma I.D. Women's Ski Boot

Now I just need some less girly looking skis to match

The Technology

The flex is marked as between 95 - 125, but in reality it's a little stiffer than this on the lower setting. The Krypton Kryzma I.D. has the stiffest flex of the Krypton women's range. The boots come with two interchangeable tongues, which you can change for a softer or harder flex and a few more wedges for the back of the boots for more flex adjustments.

Here's a list of all the other techno babble features about the boots.....

  • Cabrio Design: HD P.U. Shell/Cuff
  • Contour 4 Concept - This is the bit of the boot that helps overcome problems with pressure points and maps the 4 critical fit points
  • Kinetic Response Tongue - more sensitive to movement, improves responsiveness and control
  • Dynalink + DC Cable Clusure - minimising foot sliding, heel lift and boot shell distortion
  • Low Cuff Hinge - delivering more power and leverage to the ski with less energy.
  • F-500 Alu Buckles – 3 Microadjustable
  • Forward Lean Control
  • Forward Flex Control
  • Twin Canting
  • 2 Interchangeable Tongues – Stiff & Medium Flex
  • 2 Interchangeable Footboards – Firm & Anti-Shock

These boots are an easy choice for the expert female all mountain skier looking to upgrade or replace their boots this season. Highly recommended

Red Bull Cold Rush Freeskiing 2012 Returns

Red Bull Cold Rush 2011 Rider

The holy awesome of awesomeness in freeskiing is returning from 5th to 8th March. Oh yes, it's the one and only Red Bull Cold Rush.

The Red Bull Cold Rush is a three day backcountry freeskiing competition and one of the most exciting in the annual freeski world events calendar. Each year top freeskiing athletes head to the stunning Silverton Mountain in Colorado to see who can make the sickest lines.

This year there are new features and a new roster of athletes taking part. For the second year in a row, 17 men and 5 women will compete in the Big Mountain, Slopestyle and Cliffs disciplines to battle it out on the hill and see who is the best all-round backcountry skier. It's going to be sick.

This year the Big Mountain venue is held on Silverton Mountain’s north-facing Storm Peak, the highest ski area in North America at 13,487 feet. This peak literally traps snow from passing storms, filling in the steep, rocky chutes and couloirs. The Grande and Pequeno chutes, where the competition will take place, are so unbelievably steep they don't see sunshine until March, meaning crisp delicious pow.

The Cliffs venue will return to Silverton Mountain’s famous Zone 7 - a stunning alpine cirque with 13,500-foot peaks that funnel into an area literally stacked with cliffs of up to 70 feet in height in every direction. The cliff zone is located lower down on the mountain, keeping the snow sheltered and fresh. The landing zones are wide open, enabling the riders to pull some of their most daring tricks with less panic about the landing being filled with nasty consequences, unlike the Big Mountain arena.

Lastly, the Slopestyle venue will be just off the top of the Silverton Mountain chairlift in the aptly-named run, Mandatory Air. “Mando”, as it is sometimes called. This mother is a big assed, wide-open, north-facing bowl filled with powder and some nifty natural features, which have naturally built up some great hits. The area is quite large, allowing for multiple jumps and transfers in an above-tree-line alpine bowl.

You can get an idea of the place from the mountain/piste map of Silverton here http://www.silvertonmountain.com/site/images/trail_map.jpg

“Since the event is taking place at Silverton Mountain again, I needed to make sure the event was unique in some way,” says Pep Fujas, lead course designer and competitor in Red Bull Cold Rush. “We don’t build any features on-slope for the Big Mountain or Cliffs events, so the Slopestyle discipline is the one venue I could switch up this year. I want to make the course bigger and better, so we’re playing off the local mining heritage and building a custom rail feature, adding some jumps, and creating two distinct lines with three features each.”

Red Bull Cold Rush 2012 Crew On the New Rail Feature

How do the lines look?

The skiers’ right line consists of a step-down over a cliff, followed by a true table-style jump measuring 60 feet to the knuckle but can be sent as far as 100 feet, and finishing up with a 70-foot step-down. The left line begins with a 20-foot long custom rail feature, followed by a 50-foot step-down over a cornice, and ends with a hip jump that can be aired out anywhere between 20-80 feet. Sweet.

Who are the Riders?

This year’s Red Bull Cold Rush competitors include:

MEN: Andy Mahre, Collin Collins, Dane Tudor, Dash Longe, Dave Treadway, Fabio Studer, Josh Bibby, Kye Petersen, Leo Ahrens, Logan Pehota, Pep Fujas, Richard Permin, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Sean Pettit, Tim Durtschi, Tobias Tritscher, Wiley Miller

WOMEN: Anna Segal, Jackie Paaso, Michelle Parker, Rachael Burks, Shelly Robertson

Four Videos Friday - Lisbon, Hill Chasing, Glowing People and Snow

I've seen some interesting videos this week and nothing is more different and interesting than this project called the "Glowing Man". There's not much information up about the reason behind it nor an explanation of how they did it. I've got my theories but let's hear yours in the comments, hope you enjoy:

The next video is from WeThePeople rider Mike Curley who's just been on a trip to Lisbon with my favorite BMX filmer Will Evans (check out Will's Vimeo) with cameo appearance from another WTP rider Pete Sawyer. I'm sure whatever sport you're involved in, this video will be a reminder of just how close we are to summer time, time to take your holidays, get some traveling done with your friends and enjoy the hot, long summery days. It's so close I can almost taste it :P

More two wheeled action now for people who prefer to ride up hills instead of walk up them with their bike. Red Bull's Hill Chasers 2012 just happened recently in Bristol. Charge Bikes were the main sponsor giving away some awesome gold, silver and bronze complete setups for prizes. The concept behind this is pretty simple, get up a hill and through those narrow gaps as soon as possible without falling off or having a heart attack. Check out the video:

And finally to end this week's round up with some Skiing action. I don't really watch many ski videos and the last time I watched anything ski related was probably some years ago with Eddy The Eagle, busting down some epic hill attempting a world record on BBC 1. However this roundup of this year's Frostgun Invitational which took place in Europe's highest ski resort and friends of Chasingair.com Val Thorens, just a few days ago, looks pretty awesome and as friend just said "how come they make it look so easy" when you know that kicker is like 100ft high or something.. Crazy:

Four Videos Friday - Skating, BMX, Epic Journey's and Vintage Ladies Bikes

It's Friday evening, you've had a long week at work, maybe's you can't be bothered to go out tonight. So instead you want to kick it back and watch a couple of the best videos from the week. Well you're in the right place.

Starting this week's FVF, is a short skateboarding film by Nathan Factor Sacharow who's really made a great job at shooting the whole thing. Pieced together with the sounds provided from 'The Cinematic Orchestra' you can guarantee you'll find some awesome spots and skating going down in the next 5 minutes:

Shane Weston, have you heard of him before? If not get sunk into this video with his smooth, innovative style of street riding. He does a lot of 'free-coaster' tricks in this video (fakie to you and I) and for me, has invented some things I've not even seen before. He rides for Fly Bikes and this is one of this latest web edits:

Anyone who's into doing epic journeys, snowboarding and skiing and maybe even likes The North Face, may want to check this video out, it's been up two months but I've only just stumbled across it:

And finally this guy is just plane amazing. From what I've heard he comes from some sort of Trials riding background, you can kind of tell by his style, but what he does on this vintage ladies bike is just awesome:

Who said that I always post BMX stuff.. Till next week, have a good weekend.

Brooklyn Cruiser Commuter Bikes Set to Travel the World

Mens City Bike, Brooklyn Cruiser

Commuter bike company Brooklyn Cruiser, based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, who offer really cute looking vintage inspired city bikes, have launched internationally, they announced today. The plan is to make Brooklyn Cruiser bikes available locally around the world - hoorah!  The company, which launched the program in 2012, has already signed an agreement with a distributor in Brazil with bikes being available domestically in Brazil by May 2012. We love the look of these bikes for their simple, retro design, creme tires (which we have to admit look great for initial purchase, but tend to look a bit rubbish after a few puddle slams) and upright riding style. They even have those great seat springs for extra comfort.

The bikes that will be made available for distribution will include Brooklyn Cruiser’s three speed city bikee - these combine the function, comfort, and style of a classic Dutch bike with more stability associated with hybrid bike styles. In addition to the three-speed internal hub, the bikes also include a pre-conditioned genuine leather saddle, ergonomic leather grips, front hand and rear coaster brakes, rear carriers, cream tires and Brooklyn Cruiser’s signature double top tube frame. Lovely. Sounds like the bike world equivalent of a 50s auto.

“After our initial launch, we received quite a bit of interest from customers on the international level, however, the shipping costs made it prohibitive to ship the bikes from the States,” said Founder Ryan Patrick. “Our newly introduced distribution program, which we just launched in Brazil, is the ideal solution to the global interest in our brand as we can now make our bikes available domestically within each country,” he added.

Brooklyn Cruiser bikes range between $499-$549 plus shipping. Bikes can be found at select retail locations across the US or can be purchased online at http://www.brooklyncruiser.com. Bikes are shipped 90 percent assembled, but they recommend a mechanic test the bike for safety before you ride it. Bikes can be delivered fully assembled in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens.

Watch this space for the bikes popping up on Chasingair.com hybrid and city bike section

Long Beach’s First Skate Plaza Opens at McBride Park

McBride Skate Park Flyer Long Beach

The highly anticipated Ernest McBride Skatepark, a collaboration between LA-based Spohn Ranch Skateparks, ASK Long Beach and the City of Long Beach, California, hosted an official grand opening ceremony on Saturday February 11th.

The day’s festivities included a ribbon cutting ceremony, speeches from Long Beach skatepark advocates and City Council members, and a 45-minute inaugural demo featuring several of Long Beach’s esteemed professional skateboarders.

Spohn Ranch recently completed construction of the skatepark. The 9,000 square foot skatepark is state-of-the-art, featuring integrated cobblestone and landscaping, sculptural elements and recreations of Long Beach's urban skateboarding landmarks, most notably the famed Belmont Plaza planters which were demolished a few years ago.

By far the most compelling and significant aspect of this design, however, is the inclusion of the letters “LBC” in the banked wall.  The larger-than-life letters rise up out of the park as an instantly recognizable symbol of Long Beach’s dedication to quality skateboarding.  With a sculptural aesthetic not found in any other skatepark, these letters singlehandedly elevate this skatepark to iconic proportions.  Empowering the local skaters with the knowledge and pride that their community is special, these letters will further unite Long Beach’s skaters and cement the City’s place in skateboarding history.
Tony Hawk himself made an appearance, much to the excitement of his fans. His non-profit organisation donated $40,000 to the project for equipment and support. The park is located at 1520 Martin Luther King Ave and the ceremony. If you're nearby...check it out.

Four Videos Friday - Tea's on it's cold outside!

It's Sunday I know but I only just got back from a week long break in the beautiful city of Barcelona, which co-incidentally has something to do with this week's post! BCN has always been a well known place for Skateboarding and BMX biking - you've only got to hit up a spot called the Macba any day of the week to see a swarm of people skating and riding the ledges and stairs dotted around that place. Another popular thing over there, which I didn't notice five years ago when I was last there, was how popular fixed gear bikes had become, there is a fixed gear shop every square kilometer! Well almost..

Anyways on with the weeks round up of amazing videos and I swear next week I'll try and watch a few non-cycling videos to put in there for good measure. First off Subrosa Bikes, Scott Ditchburn who has just put out his first Chain Reaction Cycles edit for the team. He's been plagued with injury over the past six months but has still put out an absolute banger of an edit:

Next up Hoffman Bikes rider Ben Hennon has been busy with the guys from Seventies riding for their regular feature "Our House" which has already seen some sick edits from the DUBBMX team, Cult, Kink and Federal Bikes. Check out Ben's edit below and also take note that his new signature frame the "Lady Luck" is now available to buy from all good BMX stockists.

Picking up the pace even more, let me introduce you to Niki Croft's section out of the ABD(n) video from 20Twenty Store, a shop from Aberdeen up in Scotland. Niki Croft is someone that doesn't do things by halves, as you will witness in the next two minutes. Riding for The Shadow Conspiracy, &Forks and Relentless, Mr Croft:

Finally bringing us back on track to what I said earlier about fixed gear bicycles, Leeds legend Ricky Feather of Feather Cycles, has a great video feature from the guys at Hype Beast. It looks into how Ricky got into building his own frames, where his cycling interests started and how the company is just the right size so that quality is always at the forefront and not quantity. Get the tea's on and relax:

Kiteboard Tour Asia Vietnam to Feature C2Sky Freestyle Raid and Asian Old Skool Championships

Kiteboard Tour Asia

Kite Boarder at Tour Asia

Round two of the Asian Kiteboard Championship tour sees the KTA return to Mui Ne Vietnam for its third season from the 15th – 19th February 2012.

The Vietnamese crescent beach is well known for its great winds and is becoming a South East Asian mecca for kitesurfing and kiteboarding and has super conditions to stage the event.

This is a tour stop with a completely different flavour. Normally the KTA combines the Asian freestyle championship tour with kite racing but to take advantage of the conditions offered by the location in Vietnam, this event will instead feature the big air jumping skills and ‘airstyle’ mastery of the Old Skool riding style, making this a kiteboarding comp to look out for.

Jeff Newell - C2Sky, comments,

“C2Sky as one of Mui Ne’s oldest and most established kite center’s is all about unity and is proud to be have a major supportive role in bringing the KTA back to Vietnam and giving a chance for home grown local talent to be in the spotlight.

Toby Braeuer - Old Skool competitor,

“With the current type of technically scored freestyle riding the sport has lost some of its big attraction for spectators and media which are key for any event, but with the Asian Old Skool Championship it can finally be demonstrated again. It’s what kiteboarding is about: a show on the water!
The KTA tour stop has no major sponsors, but apparently, given the level of competition, they're holding it anyway. Sweet. Power to 'em! So this one is home grown, funded and delivered by not only the KTA but also by the riders, hangers on, local supporters and key to the whole event, their local organisers and hosts in Mui Ne - C2Sky.

So it’s back to the origins of the KTA, grassroots energy and lots of progression…..

This round of the Asian Tour will be all about competitors making the best use of the high wind and swell conditions of Mui Ne. No course racing this time as the Asian Course Race Championships are coming up in March in Thailand and the Mui Ne conditions aren't the best for the racers, but for the big air guys flying high and the freestylers this spot is will be a treat on a stick for them.

As the event title suggests it’s a freestyle raid on Vietnam, with new school freestyle being the main world ranking event, but also this time the tour will feature both Old Skool and Big Air, so a major feast whether you are a competitor or spectator as you witness the first ever Asian Old Skool Championships.
