Atomic Crimson Ti Skis 2012 Skis Review

If you're in need of an all-mountain ski that actually works in all conditions then your search is over. I cannot say enough good things about the 2012 Atomic Crimson Ti Titanium Skis since my discovery of them this season. The new movement in skis is towards what's called the 'One Ski Quiver' and it'll be interesting to see what's available for the 2013 season. One Ski Quiver is the new term given to a few skis now on the market that a handful of brands are releasing, claiming to be truly capable of containing a multiple set of characteristics from a variety of skis built for different skiing conditions. Pah! you cry....and so did we when we heard about this new type of ski. Surely it's not possible?! Many all-mountain skis have, for years, attempted to give us a ski that can hold itself in any condition on any terrain, and some have come quite close - but it's always come with compromises. The Rossignol Backcountry S (my ski of choice for a long while) was, in my opinion, the closest. But they are still crap on ice and short turns require a lot more push in the legs to get into a rhythm on the piste and there's just always a bit of bite missing. All these commonly known compromises with the top all-mountain skis now seems to be a thing of the past - and oh how thrilled we are. The Atomic Crimson have the usual all-mountain wider ski … Continue reading

Nite International Watches - Time for Serious Outdoor Sports Style

Nite International are a small British company with big ambitions. They design, manufacture and distribute their own unique make of watches. And from what we can see, this home-grown approach makes their watches some of the best available for the outdoor sports audience on the market today and worthy of comparison with some of the World's top watch brands. They take pride in using the best materials and components and have some nifty features that will get the gadget geeks excited, such as the Swiss self-powered GTLS illumination, Swiss made movements and (coolest of all), Nite watches are recognised military quality products and some benefit from having an official NATO stock number. I know, we squealed a little with excitement when we read this too. All their watches are made with an ultra thick sapphire crystal, triple anti-reflective coating, making these time-pieces super strong for the outdoors types. Each watch in their collection comes with specific features and unique styles. Here are three of our favourites... Nite International MX10 212 Watch Review   £199.95 The MX10-212 and its white polymer strap and dial will appeal to those looking for an all purpose style watch that can be worn with all colours. We think it has the sort of look comfortable in the sand or in the snow. We can picture style conscious surfer dudes or freestyle boarders and skiers donning this watch riding or posing around resort. This watch doesn't just look pretty, it's also packed with a high standard … Continue reading

Teva Unleashes Their New Mountain Bike Shoes - The Men's Pinner

Teva have been hard at work developing products that enable and encourage your adventures, with the sole purpose (no pun intended) of protecting your feet from the elements in the process. This new release of bike shoes is no exception. In fact, some might say they're the sexiest products they've released to date. The Pinner was recently featured in top bike magazine Bike Radar. They give the shoe a glowing 4.5 stars out of 5, and say “Teva’s Pinner is exceptionally comfortable and seriously sticky but it blends into civilian life without drawing attention.” The grip is due to Teva’s Spider365 rubber, developed specifically to stick like glue regardless of the terrain or weather. And it's true, these trainers look cool and you can stick out as much or as little as you want. Try the Links style for a more colourful statement. The blue, yellow and light grey bestsellers were designed in collaboration with legendary mountain bike rider Jeff Lenowsky and look the nuts. For more of a toned down style, they’re also available in the classic turquoise and yellow Lunar Rock or in the new shade for spring, Ultra Violet. Check out the colour ranges below. Compare and buy the Men's Pinner or check them out in action at the Winter Teva Mountain Games. Have a pair already? Let us know what you think of the new range from Teva.

Dakine Team Heli Pro Ski Rucksack 20L Wolle Nyvelt 2012 Review

The Dakine Team Heli Pro 20L Wolle Nyvelt is a stunning Rucksack for any freeriding skier or snowboarder, especially if you're looking for something that straps either skis or a snowboard for some hardcore backcountry trekking. Skis can be strapped in diagonally and a snowboard vertically, using a harness system that is really easy to use and completely secure, giving the rucksack a really comfortable, non-obtrusive feel when it's on with extra gear pinned to it. With 20L you've got plenty of room to stash all your extra layers, avalanche kit, snacks, wallet, music players, sunglasses and more. It's so roomy in fact, you could take a change of clothes for apres-ski or extra beer for everyone for a late afternoon hillside drink. There's a great pouch in the main compartment able to carry a hydration system, which can be strapped in over the left shoulder,  or the pouch can be used for carrying up to 15" laptops (making this a great travel bag too) . The front compartment has multi-functional organiser pockets. There's even a fleece lined goggles compartment on top, which we found great for carrying spare Goggles for different light during the day. We tested this bag for all its functions and found it to be light weight (only 2lbs - 9kg empty), comfortable, hard wearing and practical. It also looks the shit in situ, check out the pictures below.           You can carry almost anything weather it's strapped in or hidden inside. If … Continue reading

Dalbello Krypton Kryzma I.D. Women's Ski Boot 2012 Review

Farewell to My Old Trusty Friends. Hello Krypton Kryzma's! After years of skiing with my trusty Salomon X Wave Sensifit Ski Boots (so old I can't even find a picture of them), I knew I needed to upgrade. Boot technology has moved on significantly in the last five years, but really, when it came down to it, I'd skied two winter seasons with these boots and countless holidays. And, like an old but trusted and loved horse, they were beginning to fail in their duties. I found a new friend in the Dalbello Krypton Kryzma I.D. Women's Ski Boots. Here's my story of the complete custom fitting I had and a review of their performance over eight days of skiing. Buying 'Instruments of Torture' Is Never Fun Buying ski boots is a pain in the arse and an expensive one at that. Get it wrong and you've probably just wasted a few hundred on a purchase you can't exchange. Everyone knows it, and I knew that this was the reason I'd been putting off exchanging my now comfy, but packed out and tired, X Waves for so long. But this year I bit the bullet. My boots were so finished I might as well have been wearing slippers.  So, I went on the hunt. What Boot and From Where? Now, Dalbello have been creating quite a storm with their boots of late. And as one friend put it to me 'all the ski instructors are wearing them'. Whilst that's not … Continue reading

Red Bull Cold Rush Freeskiing 2012 Returns

The holy awesome of awesomeness in freeskiing is returning from 5th to 8th March. Oh yes, it's the one and only Red Bull Cold Rush. The Red Bull Cold Rush is a three day backcountry freeskiing competition and one of the most exciting in the annual freeski world events calendar. Each year top freeskiing athletes head to the stunning Silverton Mountain in Colorado to see who can make the sickest lines. This year there are new features and a new roster of athletes taking part. For the second year in a row, 17 men and 5 women will compete in the Big Mountain, Slopestyle and Cliffs disciplines to battle it out on the hill and see who is the best all-round backcountry skier. It's going to be sick. This year the Big Mountain venue is held on Silverton Mountain’s north-facing Storm Peak, the highest ski area in North America at 13,487 feet. This peak literally traps snow from passing storms, filling in the steep, rocky chutes and couloirs. The Grande and Pequeno chutes, where the competition will take place, are so unbelievably steep they don't see sunshine until March, meaning crisp delicious pow. The Cliffs venue will return to Silverton Mountain’s famous Zone 7 - a stunning alpine cirque with 13,500-foot peaks that funnel into an area literally stacked with cliffs of up to 70 feet in height in every direction. The cliff zone is located lower down on the mountain, keeping the snow sheltered and fresh. The landing zones … Continue reading

Brooklyn Cruiser Commuter Bikes Set to Travel the World

Commuter bike company Brooklyn Cruiser, based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, who offer really cute looking vintage inspired city bikes, have launched internationally, they announced today. The plan is to make Brooklyn Cruiser bikes available locally around the world - hoorah!  The company, which launched the program in 2012, has already signed an agreement with a distributor in Brazil with bikes being available domestically in Brazil by May 2012. We love the look of these bikes for their simple, retro design, creme tires (which we have to admit look great for initial purchase, but tend to look a bit rubbish after a few puddle slams) and upright riding style. They even have those great seat springs for extra comfort. The bikes that will be made available for distribution will include Brooklyn Cruiser’s three speed city bikee - these combine the function, comfort, and style of a classic Dutch bike with more stability associated with hybrid bike styles. In addition to the three-speed internal hub, the bikes also include a pre-conditioned genuine leather saddle, ergonomic leather grips, front hand and rear coaster brakes, rear carriers, cream tires and Brooklyn Cruiser’s signature double top tube frame. Lovely. Sounds like the bike world equivalent of a 50s auto. “After our initial launch, we received quite a bit of interest from customers on the international level, however, the shipping costs made it prohibitive to ship the bikes from the States,” said Founder Ryan Patrick. “Our newly introduced distribution program, which we just launched in Brazil, is … Continue reading

Long Beach’s First Skate Plaza Opens at McBride Park

The highly anticipated Ernest McBride Skatepark, a collaboration between LA-based Spohn Ranch Skateparks, ASK Long Beach and the City of Long Beach, California, hosted an official grand opening ceremony on Saturday February 11th. The day’s festivities included a ribbon cutting ceremony, speeches from Long Beach skatepark advocates and City Council members, and a 45-minute inaugural demo featuring several of Long Beach’s esteemed professional skateboarders. Spohn Ranch recently completed construction of the skatepark. The 9,000 square foot skatepark is state-of-the-art, featuring integrated cobblestone and landscaping, sculptural elements and recreations of Long Beach's urban skateboarding landmarks, most notably the famed Belmont Plaza planters which were demolished a few years ago. By far the most compelling and significant aspect of this design, however, is the inclusion of the letters “LBC” in the banked wall.  The larger-than-life letters rise up out of the park as an instantly recognizable symbol of Long Beach’s dedication to quality skateboarding.  With a sculptural aesthetic not found in any other skatepark, these letters singlehandedly elevate this skatepark to iconic proportions.  Empowering the local skaters with the knowledge and pride that their community is special, these letters will further unite Long Beach’s skaters and cement the City’s place in skateboarding history. Tony Hawk himself made an appearance, much to the excitement of his fans. His non-profit organisation donated $40,000 to the project for equipment and support. The park is located at 1520 Martin Luther King Ave and the ceremony. If you're nearby...check it out.

Kiteboard Tour Asia Vietnam to Feature C2Sky Freestyle Raid and Asian Old Skool Championships

Round two of the Asian Kiteboard Championship tour sees the KTA return to Mui Ne Vietnam for its third season from the 15th – 19th February 2012. The Vietnamese crescent beach is well known for its great winds and is becoming a South East Asian mecca for kitesurfing and kiteboarding and has super conditions to stage the event. This is a tour stop with a completely different flavour. Normally the KTA combines the Asian freestyle championship tour with kite racing but to take advantage of the conditions offered by the location in Vietnam, this event will instead feature the big air jumping skills and ‘airstyle’ mastery of the Old Skool riding style, making this a kiteboarding comp to look out for. Jeff Newell - C2Sky, comments, “C2Sky as one of Mui Ne’s oldest and most established kite center’s is all about unity and is proud to be have a major supportive role in bringing the KTA back to Vietnam and giving a chance for home grown local talent to be in the spotlight. Toby Braeuer - Old Skool competitor, “With the current type of technically scored freestyle riding the sport has lost some of its big attraction for spectators and media which are key for any event, but with the Asian Old Skool Championship it can finally be demonstrated again. It’s what kiteboarding is about: a show on the water! The KTA tour stop has no major sponsors, but apparently, given the level of competition, they're holding it anyway. Sweet. … Continue reading
