Every 1980s school boy wanted to lay his filthy little mitts on two or three objects of impossible desire: the controls of the Millennium Falcon; the golden idol at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark; and, of course, Kelly LeBrock. It was enough to give Santa Claus a coronary and turn Jimmy Saville, well, a little whiter. Now, adolescent fantasies are belatedly fulfilled in the form of the Nike Mag, an exact replica of Michael J Fox’s awesome self-lacing future shoes from Back to the Future part II. These funky hi-tops come complete with glowing soles and an illuminated tri-colour heel piece. Alas, no self-fastening laces, but that would be spoiling us. A spokesman for Nike said: "The...shoe was designed to be a precise replica of the original Back to the Future II [model]. "The aesthetic is an exact match, down to the contours of the upper, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent Nike in the strap." Speaking of fastenings, here comes the catch. Nike is making only 1,500 pairs of these puppies, with the aim of raising $100m towards The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at auction, which, a rudimentary bit of maths tells us they’re hoping to fetch almost $67,000 a pair.
